![]() Hope that help and is fairly accurate, if any of the SESI guys are online and want to correct me -please do. Its actually quite generous since you can renew the license forever, remove the watermark and render hd for $100, and unlike most “trial”/noncom/“lite” version is hardly crippled and place the water mark small in the corner instead of full frame or tiling it like birthday wrapping paper. Universities would presumably have to go through far more formailities to set up educational versions. So a full blown master license-like feature set is provided for the intent of learning/exploration and non-profit use but as a closed system to some degree allowing things in but not out, this makes sence. The reasons for this preesumably is that anyone can get a noncom license with almost no effort and therefore these limitation keep commercial projects from using it to export to commercial applications or rendering it full res. Noncom/starving artist noncom is intended for the individual and have a FEW limitations which to my knowledge are:Ĭannot export FBX (but can import), cannot save hips (saves hipncs, but can open hips ok), have limited resolution on rops, and cannot work with 3rd party render engines ie renderman, mray etc… and lastly place a smaller than most watermark in the lowe-right. This rehashes pretty much all of the information here except states the entire process that worked for me from installing, to getting the license server to start up on reboot to launching houdini.Im not %100 sure what you are looking at in the pdf, but unless something has changed, the general summery and I think source of your confisuin is…Įducational licenses are more or less Master Licenses provided to universities and are unwatermarked, just display some “educational” splash screen message and of course are for noncom educational use- but do not have the limitations and can still open/save hip files. Taking the information from here, this is the process that worked for me: Posted: Wed 9:46 pm Post subject: Re: it's not working:( I have houdini 7.0.192 and it's not working, i have message:License Error: Unable to connect to hserver for license acquisition Posted: Mon 4:37 pm Post subject: it's not working:( On a side note to keep it working after reboot i had to make a fakesesi init script:Įend $? "Sesi won't die.Send reinforcemnets.sk."Ĭause gentoo gripes if I add sesinetd to the initscripts ![]() You're my Hero! I've been dual booting to mandrake just to make houdini work! Thank you! replace " houdini" with the program name but leave "source houdini_setup" the same in all scripts. To make life easier put one of these scripts in /usr/bin for each program, hhalo, houdini, hselect, hescape, hkey, and make it executable with chmod 755 /usr/bin/ houdini. You could do the following, so you don't have to start the license server manually all the time The Server should now be fully operational, so start houdini Go to File>Manually insert keys and go to Įnter Server name and Server Code as shown in Server Information tab ![]() ![]() #do the following while it's prompting that it's loading the license server configuration,or after you see it fail to obtain the information, because then it's practically done but failed to start the service This will allow you install houdini, and the sesinetd license server, but will fail to start the license server I managed to install houdini apprentice in gentoo with the following instructions Posted: Wed 11:16 am Post subject: HOUDINI APPRENTICE for gentoo Gentoo Forums :: View topic - HOUDINI APPRENTICE for gentoo ![]()
